Children's Services & Supports

In January 2013 CoAction entered into partnership with the HSE to provide a cohesive service to children with complex needs in the West Cork area. This new service is called West Cork Child Development Services (WCCDS). This is part of the national project “Progressing Disability Services”. West Cork is one of the first places in Ireland to start the new service. This service caters for children aged 0 to 18 with complex needs including intellectual disability, ASD, physical and sensory disabilities and children with complex developmental delay.

This service provides interdisciplinary team services to 598 children including :
  • Psychological services
  • Speech and Language Therapy services
  • Occupational Therapy services
  • Physiotherapy services
  • Clinical Nurse Specialist services 
  • Part-time Social Work services

There are 4 teams for children in West Cork, based in Bantry, Clonakilty, Dunmanway and Skibbereen. In Skibbereen some services are delivered from Coolnagarrane, HSE. The Service Manager is Hazel Trudgill, who can be contacted on 023 8855505.

CoAction also provide the following supports to the children with an intellectual disability including; respite, home support, Homelink, Saturday clubs, sibshops and summer camps.
